Success Academy

WHO WE ARE

At the Lorain City Schools Success Academy, we provide intensive support to students and engage with families to help improve students’ academics, positive behaviors, and life skills beyond the classroom. We serve students with a broad range of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional learning needs, providing the support, education, and tools they need to succeed and enjoy rewarding futures.

STUDENTS:
  • Discover the structure, support, and personal attention they need.
  • Become engaged with school, the goals of transition or graduation.

FAMILIES
  • Witness transformation in the child’s behavior, academics, and social skills
  • Experience consistent progress-related communication with teachers and staff
OUR FOCUS
Students who struggle to engage in school are often dealing with trauma, insecurity, learning impairments, poverty, or other hardships. Success Academy supports our most vulnerable or disconnected students by providing additional academic, behavioral, and therapeutic support, enabling students to fully engage and achieve success in both academics and life.

WHAT WE OFFER | THREE PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS

  • TRANSITIONAL SUPPORT | Students receiving transitional support become engaged in their education again by overcoming the behavioral, social-emotional, and academic challenges that have impeded or impacted their educational success. Once they’ve re-engaged in school and achieved their personal academic benchmarks, these students can smoothly transition back to Lorain High School with the tools they need to succeed.

  • ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION | This effective and impactful educational approach provides even the most disconnected students with an opportunity to re-engage in school. Our Accelerated program targets over-age and under-credited students—those at the highest risk of dropping out of school—and affords them the ability to catch up on their academic work in order to achieve grade-level promotion and graduation.

  • EVENING INSTRUCTION | Our night school is designed for students who may have had personal or family commitments affecting their high school success but are committed to achieving their goal of graduating. All students can succeed, and alternative pathways can open doors to success that were once thought to be closed.

WHY IT WORKS

When students are comfortable in the learning environment and confident in their teachers, they feel empowered to take charge of their education and future. To ensure this comfort level and trust, we build meaningful relationships so that educators can clearly understand each student's individual needs, strengths, and challenges. Once that foundation is built, our students receive the care, counseling, and support they need to address their significant difficulties outside school.
